Lama Tsewang

Although trained in the Shangpa Kagyu and Karma Kagyu lineages in retreat under the Venerable Kalu Rinpoche, Lama Tsewang takes an ecumenical approach to education and training in the Dharma.  Due to various causes and conditions, and with the kind permission of Khenpo Tsewang Gyatso, the academic program at the temple will be based on the Nyingma shedra (monastic college) curriculum.  Studies will be undertaken primarily in a correspondence format, including group discussion and exams.  At the completion of the seven year training program, successful candidates may be awarded the Lhopon (Acarya) degree and may later be eligible for the title of Khenpo.

The course of study is as follows:

Section One: Bodhicharyaavatara (Way of the Bodhisattva) by Shantideva and 37 Practices of the Bodhisattvas

Section Two: Ascertaining the Three Levels of Precepts by Ngari Panchen in Perfect Conduct

Section Three: Wisdom Sword of Certainty by Mipham Rinpoche

Section Four: Dharmadharmatavibhanga (Distinguishing Phenomena and Pure Being) by Maitreya

Section Five: Gateway to Knowledge (Khejuk) by Maitreya

Section Six: Madyamakavatara by Chandrakirti and Prajanparamita by Khenchen Padmavajra (a commentary to Abhisamayalankara by Maitreya)

Section Seven: Uttaratantra by Maitreya and Lamp of Certainty by Mipham Rinpoche

Section Eight: Kherim Commentary by Jigme Lingpa and Instruction on the Four Essentials of Generation Stage Practice by Patrul Rinpoche

Section Nine: Nangwa Lhadrup (Establishing Appearances as the Deity) by Rongsum Chokyi Zangpo

Section Ten: Essence of Clear Light--a Commentary on Guhyagarbha Tantra by Mipham Rinpoche

Section Eleven: Semnyi Ngalso (Relaxing in the Reality of Mind)
